About Sonic Brass
The Sonic Brass was founded in 2004 to provide a challenging
rehearsal
and performance venue for Arizonaʼs finest student brass and percussion
players. The ensemble provides an outlet for students to further their musical
and
technical abilities through new and traditional brass band music. This unique
ensemble supplements the wind band experience in the public schools and
provides young musicians with the opportunity to interact with other
exceptional musicians from around the state. Through this experience, the
ensemble's goal is to raise the level of brass and percussion playing in
the state of Arizona. The band also features world-class instruction by
clinicians Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan!
Sonic Brass meets on Thursdays from 4:30pm-6:30pm in the Mesa Community
College Band Room. Students involved with Sonic Brass receive 2 credits per semester.
Students who are still in high school will register with Early College in the Registrar Office.
Auditions are held in the Spring for the following term. Sonic Brass carries positions
for Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Horn, Euphonium, Baritone, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba
and Percussion. There is also an Eb Soprano chair that has been filled in the past
with one of the following: Eb Clarinet, Eb Soprano Cornet and Soprano Saxophone.
